IC: <Drayan Palace, Draya, Arianna Deveraux (NPC)>
Arianna turned the corner and quickened her pace as the main hall came into view. Datapad clutched in her right hand, she arrived at the doorway and pushed the heavy door to the hall open. Upon entering she scanned the crowd, most were lazily discussing the current art exhibition displayed in the hall, however one figure stood near the corner of the room alone. Content that she had found her quarry, Arianna moved to the figure and offered the datapad. Taking it from her hand, the lone man studied it for a moment and then a frown appeared on his scarred visage. Arianna nodded and looked down.
"The Cooperative Council of Independent Planetary Governments eh? The New Republic surely is grapsing at straws there..." The man's face seemed unmoved and he did not look up from the datapad. Arianna shrugged and took a deep breath before speaking.
"Well, they have to do what they can Darien...especially now that Fey'lya is in charge. He wants to show other races that they too can have 'power', let them in on the dream ya'know? I mean...bureaucracy MUST prevail!" The sarcasm in her voice was unmistakable and her contempt for the New Republic's choices was slowly seeping into her voice. Darien smiled a bit and put his hand on her shoulder.
"Funny how a few short years ago the words we were hearing were 'long live freedom!' isn't it? How far we've fallen..." His voice trailed off as he glanced at the datapad again. Shaking his head from side to side he pursed his lips before continuing. "Well, I should let Kathryn know about this...and rest assured, we will not become a part of the New Republic nonsense no matter how many layers of placating nerfcrap they try to hide it under." He smiled and turned, taking the datapad and leaving the hall. Arianna's shoulders slumped a bit and her mind began to wander. How much of this were they going to have to endure? All that they had worked for as an independent people, all that they had fought and died for...at every turn there was some new "project" that the New Republic wanted them to join or become a part of...all in the name of "Galactic Cooperation!" HA! It was a thinly veiled ruse designed to lure systems into a symbiotic relationship with the bloated mass of the New Republic so that the tiny governments would not be able to stay sovereign without support from the Republic and thus become servants to its overblown will. Arianna stomped her foot and let out a small grunt of frustration, causing several others in the hall to pause and take note. She smiled and waved sweetly to the gawkers before finally exiting the hall and heading for her private chambers.
